WANG SHIUKUNG(b.1930)
Born in Gansu, China. Wang got professionally trained in Hangzhong National College of Art, came to Taiwan in 1949, , and learned the skill of making ceramic glaze from Li Shao-bai─ Li Shao-bai served as former directors of Peitou ceramics factory in Taiwan Industrial and Mining Company at that time. At that time, Taiwan pottery was still developed the era of opening up, considered as the items in everyday use and handicraft, is far from being artistic value. He started creating art in ceramics. Perhaps the material is different, but artistic idea and the pursuit to the aesthetic theory are the same. Wang Shiu-Kung asserted that the innovative ceramic pieces shall, in addition to the essentials of traditional Chinese glaze, absorb the nutrition from other aspects of fine art so that artists can open a new chapter in styles and techniques. Wang has held more major solo-art exhibitions and group shows at U.S.A., France, Italy, Germany, Belgium and Asia. Judged Ceramics for the following organizations: National Museum of History, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, and Taiwan Museum of Art.
