Exposition:
By borrowing from Taihu’s shapes Shi Jianmin reinvents his art for “Exiting the Cave”. Even since he has opted for stainless steel, Shi has continuously reinforced his mandate for elegance. His field of vision has broadened and the discovery of the decorative stones of Taihu, those rocks so often found in the gardens of Jiangnan, were for him a revelation. The refinement which he takes such care in finding, presents itself through their exquisite modeled surfaces, their curves and filigrees. They have also, by virtue of the culture they represent, become symbols of harmony and graceful fragility. As much as the link forged between the refinement of the Taihu stones and the purity of stainless steel lends the work the elegance of floating clouds, their quiet confidence is the fruit of years of research.
