“Fierce General” was erected at Guangzhou People’s Park in 1987. Zhang Ji-Shing was a heroine who held her head high despite the persecution that had been imposed on her during the “Cultural Revolution. “The agile and masculine girl without clothing holding a bow and arrow on a stallion” was created in her image. This sculpture is considered a milestone in China despite its controversy. The girl is armed with a bow and arrow and her eyes glow while galloping on the horse. The stallion neighs like an out-of-body experience. The arrow is shot and blazes through time and space. “Fierce General” was exhibited at Guangdong Exhibition and was chosen as the cover for the then popular “Flower City” and “Work Collection” Magazine. “Fierce General” is the “breakthrough” in the sculpture circle as nudity appeared for the first time. It is a pioneering form of art that challenges conservatism and calls out for change.
