ZHONG CHENG

唐大禧 TANG DAXI (b.1936)

Born in Guangdong, China, Tang Daxi began his career in art design in 1956. His First work, “Tracking” , came second in the “Guangdong Youth Art Exhibition” organized by the Guangdong Province Art Association, and was also nominated in the National Youth Art Exhibition. His sculpture “Fierce Warriors” in 1979 won an award of Excellence in the Art Exhibition in Guangdong Province. “New Space” was created in 1984. In 1985 he served as president of the Guangzhou Sculpture Court. His “Creation of the Sun” was awarded a bronze in the National Sixth and Seventh Art Exhibition in 1989. Many of his works have been collected by the National Art Museum of China, Tianjin Museum, Shanghai Museum, Guangdong Museum of Art, Guangzhou Sculpture Park, Beijing International Sculpture Park, Hong Kong Museum of Art and Macao Museum. He served as honorary president of Chinese Sculpture Society in 1998, member of the National Urban Sculpture Art Committee, Vice Chairman of Guangdong Provincial Association of Fine Arts, Vice-Chairman of Guangzhou City Literature Association, and Chairman of Guangzhou City Artists Association. In 2006 in Guangzhou, the Guangzhou municipal party committee allocated 12 acres of land in Sculpture Park to establish a “Tang Daxi Sculpture Garden” . In 2007 Daxi was elected by referendum as one of “Fifty Lingnan Cultural Celebrities” . He created the monument of the great scholar “Chen Yinke” for Guangzhou Sun Yat-Sen University in 2008 and “The Passion and the Classic – Tang Daxi Sculpture Exhibition” Guangdong Museum of Art in 2009.
