In 1980, Yang Jenming’s artwork started do take on a quality of self-centered disassociation which it still bears today. While residing in France, Yang’s thoughts were still very close to his home, and perhaps this imbued his artwork with an independent spirit. A tendency for organically associated forms continually appears in his paintings in his paintings, along with images suggesting perspective which are disrupted by lines and create disordered space. “Black Water Series”, colorful means help to be a beautiful world, as a way to continue his ongoing investigation.
