ZHONG CHENG

魏光慶 WEI GUANGQING (b.1963)

Born in Huangshi, Hubei, Wei graduated from the department of Oil Painting at China Academy of Art. He once served as the associate director and associate professor of the department of oil painting in Hubei Institute of Fine Arts, as well as the director and commissioner of the Hubei Oil Painting Association. Currently, he is the department head, professor and researcher of Hubei Institute of Fine Arts. In 2005, his solo exhibition, “Made in China - The Painting of Wei Guangqing” took place at the Art Gallery of Hubei Institute of Fine Arts. His works were displayed at the "Playing No Cards with Cezanne" exhibition in United States; "The First Guangzhou Biannual Art Exhibition" in China, accompanied with an academic award; "The China" toured exhibition, which took place in Germany, Austria, Denmark, Poland and Singapore; "Global Concept Theory" exhibition in the United States; "The First Guangzhou Tri Annual Art Exhibition" and many other exhibitions. His works have been nominated for "The 3rd Chinese Oil Painting Masterpiece Exhibition" and won The 2nd Hubei Oil Painting Exhibition. Recent major exhibitions include: “Wei Guangqing: Plus or Minus Zero” (2015, Hubei Museum of Art, Hubei); “China Pop: Xue Song & Wei Guangqing” (2015, Pacific Heritage Museum, San Francisco); “Shanghai Art Fair Special Project” (2009, ShanghaiMart, Shanghai); “China, Contemporary Painting", (Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio, Bologna, Italy, 2005); “Mahjong”, (Museum of Fine Art, Berne, Switzerland, 2005).
