ZHONG CHENG

霍剛 HO KAN ( b.1932 )

Ho Kan was born in Nanjing, China, graduated from the art department of Taipei Normal School. While attending Taipei Municipal Jianguo High School as a boarder, he met Li Wenhan from the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts, and began to study art and western painting theory. Later, he studied in Li Zhongsheng's studio, and after graduation, he devoted himself to teaching, promoting children's free drawing and creating various artworks including sketches, oil paintings, and ink paintings. He often chooses landscapes and still life as his subjects, and prefers cool colors such as blue, green, and gray.

 

In 1956, he co-founded the "Eastern Painting Association" with eight other great artists. In 1964, he went to France, and later settled in Milan, Italy. After going abroad, he adjusted his style by reducing the line strokes and shifting towards brighter colors. He has received various awards such as the "International Art Development Award" from the city of Gubbio in Italy and the "Achievement Award for Modern Painting" from the 5th Li Zhongsheng Foundation.

 

Recent exhibitions include " Reverberations," a solo exhibition by Ho Kan at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum in 2016, " Ho Kan Solo Exhibition" in Taichung, Taiwan at the Moon Lin Gallery in 2015, "Eastern Vision," a solo exhibition in Taipei, Taiwan at the Dream 12 Aesthetics Space in 2014, and " Ho Kan 80 Sketch Exhibition" in Taichung, Taiwan at the Elephant Art Space in 2012.
