Li Shuang becomes famous for the Starts Group, which is admitted by today’s Chinese critics as the pioneering group for Chinese contemporary art at the end of the 1970’s. Li is one of the 10- founders of this organization, the only female member of the original Stars Group, the only woman artist to have dared to show with her comrades their experimental work in the garden outside the China National Museum, after having their request for a show turned down by the authorities.

Li Shuang’s style is gentle, and the oil painting’s colors are profuse and smooth, impressing the audience with a feeling of satisfaction. She chooses the gradually changing colors instead of the strong contrasting colors to make the style meaningful and classic. Appreciating Li’s works feels like hearing a lecture on Taosim, which probably coincides with her concept that art ought to integrate the two extremes of yin and yang(the two opposing principles in nature, the former feminine and negative and the latter masculine and positive). Li Shuang always advocates the artists to sincerely represent the relations between themselves and the world, and art should the truest accomplishment to reflect the inner world. Therefore, she always attempts to express the genuine aesthetics and conception in creation.
