Exposition:

“Wordless Angel” has a gigantic mouth, standing by itself on an even background, cut out from the face, painted with the same sophisticated and “cold” technique as the fruits. The glossy surface of the lips with reflections of light, although plastic and almost abstract in pictorial terms, nevertheless achieves a deviant, morbid sensuality. Observing our reaction to this painting we become fully aware of how much we are influenced by some icons, some artificial images which are now worldwide, and which have taken the place of real people, real objects, real landscapes. These artificial fetishes have become cult symbols and are now the only things capable of giving us excitement. We are all so intoxicated by the overwhelming quantity of images, of “virtual” realities, that even our “beastly” nature has become subjugated by them. Then Yang Guoxin has surpassed Andy Warhol and Chinese Political Pop, and transformed the Chinese Political Pop into the “daily consumer pop”, to highlight the single fact of commercial fetishism in the Chinese society.
