Known as one of the best artists who excells in using colors in contemporary China, Zhou Chun Ya uses the different shades of colors and giving them a balanced harmonious and thrusting feeling. In 40 years of creating, many times he had used extremely simple or even one or two colors in his paintings. It has became one of his trademarks, giving viewers shocking impacts.

Created in 1997, Peach Blossom No.2” is one of the series created after Zhou Chun Ya returned from Germany. With bright eye-catching green and deep pink, he begins his exploration in expressing his unique artistic expression. These two colors have been widely used in his Green Dog series and the Peach Blossom series in 2005. The creation echos with his affections.

To Zhou Chun Ya, the artistic language takes time to nurture- it is related to one’s culture, cultivation and also perspective in life. Flowers are used in traditional paintings for a very long time, and in Peach Blossom No.2” the composition gave viewers a pleasant surprise. The brushstrokes are simple and composed with eye-catching and thrusting colors, achieving a stage that is almost abstract, an expressive painting with unique style. Through the bright green and red, livelihood and inner vitality, reproducing western and eastern art, the artist eliminated the borders of time and culture. The painting is a reflect of the artist’s between modern and tradition.
