During the 1990s, Zhou Chun Ya began his creation of the vase and flower series. Comparing to the paintings that pursuit innate charms, he used implicating objects to convey himslef. He wanted to express his strong emotions and emphasizes on narrating the momentum and sensitivity. Therefore, there is no strict sketch before he begin to draw. Instead, he wanted something that relates to his prsonal experiences and affections that had been accumulated through time, creating a complete artwork as a vase with dynamic lines and color block composed flowers.

The Plum Series” series are presented in a very shocking posture. The composition breaks through the traditional steady symmetry. It used water ink to show it’s strength with flow and speed. The freehand brushstrokes on the branches created a complex intertwining space with dots, lines and colors. Constructing an outline, dense or sparse, passionate and straightforward to show the lively vitality and freedom. The lines implicate the artist’s internal affections, and composed images that reflect his feelings. The paintings are so honest, without reservation, to present the artist’s thoughts, personality and passion.

“I look for inspirations in life and continually look for new methods and forms. However, on the visual level, I am more interested in description that surpasses real form; I want something that is more symbolic and more interesting. I am not satisfied with being a narrator, I respect symbolism and divinity. I am willing to inspire or even shock my viewers with the image that I have created.”
