Chiu Ya-Tsai likes to portray those nobody been harmed by life’s difficulties. He finally depicts their minds, showing out tragedy and misery they had encountered. For example, vagrant, drifter, poet, or street performer, etc. They live out their lives in each world, but Chiu explains life’s meaning and symbol with painting. On the other hand, painting brush is also a tool for him to let go off oppression, complicated consciousness, as well as relationships with other people. Through painting, Chiu Ya-Tsai transferred his inner world into every gangly figure painting.

 

Someone say that Chiu Ya-Tsai’s painting style is similar to Modigliani’s. In fact, Modigliani’s painting style is also tragic like. He painted characters of no pupils and a boring face, but Chiu Ya-Tsai handled his characters with pale but plump faces long with black limning to present life’s misfortune. As for background, the using of large color blocks manifests character’s traits and the artist’s strong sense life’s misfortune.
