“I knew I am going to be famous since I was 17 years old. Charlie Parker and Jimi Hendrix were always on my mind and enabled me to have a romantic imagination on how people became famous.”
---Jean-Michel Basquiat

It was an era of transformation between new and old, and the birth of new art forms, graffiti attracted the attention of the art world and the media.
Later inspired and encouraged by Andy Warhol, Basquiat evolved into an acclaimed artist. Rene Ricard introduced Basquiat with the topic “The Radiant Child” in Artforum in 1981. This was also the turning point of Basquiat’s career. Ever since he stepped foot on the international stage, he successfully challenged racism and broke barrier of races. This graffiti kid from Soho has become a serious artist. Basquiat as an acclaimed artist yet drugs and alcohol addiction took his life while he was only 27. However, his remarkable art works impacted his era.

Basquiat excels in utilizing the combination of lines and colors to create a unique art language.
