Exposition:

Yang Chihung meanders between the millenniums of aesthetic tradition of the East and the modern culture and ideology of the West. He paints, he writes, covering the vast territory of art, pondering the quintessential difference between Eastern and Western aesthetics. Pulsation of Life was created when he was in New York City, the melting pot and center stage of modern culture and scientific development. It was such stimulation that gave way to the collage of images. He deconstructed his diverse experience into graphic elements that combine the symbolic and the figurative, which he re-juxtaposed on canvas.

Fantastic narratives, distilled placement of daily objects, reflections upon life and civilization with symbols and images from the modern society, Yang created Pulsation of Life in 1982, when he first moved to the U.S. What he saw and what he thought were captured on canvas, a generalized interpretation of images in life. The mixing, matching and juxtaposing of daily objects in collages of colors create stunning visual impacts, as if they are clues to a puzzle, to be followed by viewers in search of hidden meanings. The points, lines and planes are reconstructed as extensions of Yang’s thoughts, interweaving between reality and memory, space and time, transforming and generating infinite imaginations. As Yang weaves in the colors, the images become narration of logic, critique and reflections upon social values, a bold statement of Yang’s idiosyncratic style.
