Mount Emei, one of China's revered peaks, has captivated hearts since ancient times with its breathtaking vistas. With a history steeped in Buddhist, Taoist, Confucian, and literary traditions, Mount Emei stands as a testament to the rich tapestry of Chinese culture. At its pinnacle lies the "Golden Summit," renowned for its awe-inspiring wonders: the spectacle of sunrise, the ethereal sea of clouds, the divine glow of Buddha's light, and the sacred lamps that illuminate the night. Among its many treasures, the Huazang Temple, nestled on the Golden Summit, shines as a beacon of spiritual enlightenment, revered by Buddhists across the nation. Mount Emei's allure lies not only in its natural grandeur but also in its profound cultural significance, drawing pilgrims and seekers from far and wide.

In 1966, as Shiy Dejinn returned to Taiwan from his travels in Europe and America, he embarked on a quest to capture the essence of Mount Emei through his art. Inspired by the mountain's majesty and tranquility, he sought to convey its timeless beauty to his friend, Mr. Lu Jinghua, who had yet to behold its splendor. With each brushstroke, Shiy Dejinn imbued his painting, "The Golden Summit of Mount Emei," with a sense of reverence and wonder, capturing not just its physical features but also its spiritual essence.

Reflecting on his artistic journey, Shiy Dejinn remarked, "I used to follow the Western painting tradition, now I want to break free from it and draw inspiration from Chinese painting tradition."

This masterpiece marked the beginning of Shiy Dejinn's exploration of a new artistic path—one that blended Eastern and Western techniques with profound sensitivity. Departing from traditional Chinese scroll formats, he embraced a square canvas, allowing for a more immersive viewing experience. Through skillful use of color and composition, he brought Mount Emei to life, from the distant horizon to the soaring peaks, capturing the mountain's timeless allure and spiritual resonance.

As viewers gaze upon "The Golden Summit of Mount Emei," they are transported to a realm of sublime beauty and spiritual serenity—a testament to Shiy Dejinn's mastery as an artist and his deep connection to the natural world. Just as the legend of the Buddha's light at Mount Emei remains veiled to all but a few, Shiy Dejinn's painting reveals the hidden depths of the mountain, inviting us to contemplate its mysteries and marvel at its splendor.
