Lunar Brilliance is a portrayal of the yearning for a mother. The father and grandmother had a quarrel, which led to their absence in the family reunion. This feeling of longing for family is best described in the lyrics of a song by Su-Sui with a verse that goes: “no matter how far apart we can still admire the beauty of the moon together.” When Yang longed for his mother as a child, he looked upon the moon. His grandmother said to him: “Mother is also looking at the moon from afar, so by the communion of the moon both of you are joined together.”

Using non-rusting material, the sculpture is of a full moon. In the hearts of the Chinese, the bright full moon represents a state of harmony and the roundedness symbolizes the family reunion. The odd times when the moon and stars appear in the night, one looks up in the sky to see the round moon and feels a sense of affection, a train of thought, numbness, and a deep exhale all at the same time while reminiscing on the past. There is not a celestial body that compares to the moon in giving the Chinese people full of sentiments. Therefore, this piece allows us to yearn for our past emotions and old friends.
