Shi Lei has always been painting exactly what he felt, regardless whether it was understood, estimated, appreciated. Indifferent to the various trends and symbolic language. To be able to keep going on one’s own way is not such an easy thing in contemporary art,and for this reason. He wanted to start a series of figures with human bodies and the heads of the 12 Chinese zodiac animals. There fore I was not surprised when I saw his last works. It seems to me that in these works he wants to stress one of the most basic needs of human beings-that of reproduction. According to the year of the birth：a lamb, a horse and a dog are supposed to be basically different. Shi Lei paintings, especially when they privilege the pictorial pleasure and set the imagination free, are disquietingly powerful.
