John Way was edified and influenced by Chinese traditional calligraphy ever since his childhood. His exploration on Chinese calligraphy lies in the excellent works he created through the combination of testing method and various ancient styles. During his studying in US, the abstract expressionism helped him to find the intersect ion point of paint ings and calligraphy. Way's painting 《Dew》of 1999, that adapted the colors from French impressionism, the layout of American abstract expressionism, and the spirit of Chinese calligraphy, he's skilled at colors and leaving white spaces, and use them skillfully, formed a powerful form of art.
