As represented in his works, Hsiao Yi Deliberately creates an effect of roughness and forthrightness, which evokes a sense of unfinished quality. He puts a hold to craftiness. He aims for the seeming rather than the exact in the likeness of an image. The finesse he used to pursuer is now halted. The traditional softness and roundness have been replaced by irregular, angular and agitated formations. The former solid and fully-packed shape of his works now become welded open work composed of iron rod, plates and blocks. What remains unchanged is that Hsiao Yi still insists on sticking to his own inclination by exploiting his sensation and intuition as usual, when it comes to the representation of concrete images of kinds.
