Zhang Fangbai graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Central Academy of Fine Arts. In 1991, he organized the individuals’ exhibition at the Gallery of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and was interviewed and recognized by the international media. Zhang Fangbai’s painting is a purely Oriental style. He received oriental education, lived in an oriental environment, and has a thorough and comprehensive understanding of Oriental art. What he needs is to express his China affair by means of the tool of expression borrowed from the western world. Under the circumstances that the system of “Chinese Oil Painting” had not yet been formed and recognized by the academic sector, Zhang Fang Bai belonged to the typical strokes faction. Zhang Fangbai painting’s calligraphy, its cultural significance and spiritual values were fully embodied in his full understanding of Chinese culture and art and maturity of expression. His writing technique shows his direct insight into life and art. In his works, what is really felt is the greeting of dense air and the simplicity and purity of the whole picture, but all his strokes are subtle, as if you have been placed in a primitive, rough but occult atmosphere. Following the mental shock is the heart of reverence. What the screen expressed directly touched the depths of the human mind and enabled people to face the noblest thing of the universe and of life.
