Ma Paisui was an influential figure during the development of color painting in Taiwan. His artworks skillfully blend western color paintings with Chinese ink paintings. The style is unique and presents a purity and simplicity with concise skills of water ink and colored ink in sketch or freehand traditional Chinese paintings. The Taipei North Gate was established in the years of Emperor Guangxu, 1884, and today’s Bo-Ai Road. Ma Paisui presented his passion for the land of Taiwan with his concise brushstrokes; the form is sophisticated and overpowering. “Taiper City Wall” embodies a meaning of inheritance in Taiwanese Art studies and Classical Arts.
