Graduated from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Tu Zhi Wei, is renowned for his “Dunhuang” series. He excels at using Chinese historical stories as the base to blend it with Western materials and skills, giving oil painting a new perspective. The huge artwork “Dancing with Playing Pipa” created in the 90s is based on his studies on Dunhuang murals and ancient historical relics. The magnificent composition reproduces the ostentatiously prosperous of court life in the Tang dynasty and has gained wide-spread attention in Chicago.
