Yang Guo Xin’s oil painting series: “Expression” and “好果子” used colors so pure that almost passed the limitations of oil painting materials. The smooth surface and even colors leave almost no trace of painting and handmade techniques. This utter difference from traditional oil painting impacts our visions. Once received excellent oil painting training, Yang Guo Xin is familiar with the characteristics of oil painting materials. He discarded the focus on texture and brushstrokes, and aimed for a surface as smooth as printed mail. As an artist who resides in the prosperous Southern city, it is inevitable that he will be influenced by the huge advertisement billboards. “Wu Han Expressions” is neat and young, it is full of commercial tension and ambitions; it displays numerous consumable symbols and signs to provoke the desire to consume. His artworks are not only paintings, but if we look from the contemporary Chinese art perspective, we will realize that he is a sensitive and creative artist who presents his unique outlook and artwork, he is indeed a reflection of the era.
