“Animation” dominates after the 70s and 80s contemporary art world, the new generation shows greater acceptance toward images than words. Xiong Li Jun lives in the era when China just began to open up and accepting influx of popular culture, this has more or less reinforced visual and material consumption. Also, with the overall improvement in living standards, artists of this era are no different than youngsters of the same age; they are free to pursuit individualism, and no longer burdened with traditions

Xiong Li Jun presented real-life relationship in society through images in 《Street Corner》, she shows her empathy for the inanition and lost young people feel nowadays with sensitive and unique colors. A saturated emotion is unleashed, to manifest the generation’s desire of finding one’s asset. The vivid colors and exaggerated postures in the painting proclaim their indifference and apathetic attitude toward the era.

Her characters are the future backbones of the country; they experienced the transformation from short of supply to abundant resources, and now live in a world of over consumption. Choosing to be indifferent and fearless, the characters gave in to temptation and pretended that everything was alright. On the surface, it shows the lifestyle and conduct of young people nowadays; however, from a sociology perspective, the paintings provide a reference and understanding of the younger generation’s way of thinking. Xiong Li Jun precisely captured the rhythm of this current culture, and expressed the lost modern people feel in this era, which over consumed culture and materials.
