In the early 90s, Ho Sen is recognized as realist artist from his paintings of Chinese modern teenagers. He used a dark and dramatic approach that is really used in contemporary China, and probe into the question of one’s position. The themes on disaster and solitude reflect how global consumerism impact Chinese teenagers. 《Girl with Whiskey》used a depressing monotone, a neutral gray and shadowy black, showing a repressive mood. The ethereal depressive red and gray detach it from our current lives, the gap is the place for Ho Sen to meditate, and he describes his paintings as “a fear of growing up and escape from reality.”

Ho Sen has once lost himself in the mega Chinese commercialism trend, yet transcends into a liberal Chinese capitalism byproduct artist. His brushstrokes, from blurry to clear, show his detailed and descriptive style, and evolved into a mainstream product female figure
