After 1950, the painter, Chen Yin-Pi began to pursue the style of abstract expressionism. Like the two contemporary American painters Jackson Pollock and Mark Tobey that he admires, Chen Yin-Pi also dedicated himself to developing the more direct and freer artistic spirit. In his work of ‘  ‘, he created a purely sensual artwork that did not focus on meanings after repetitive patches, adhesion and alterations. It is based on Chinese calligraphy and books of stone rubbings, which is obscured completely so as to invent another new conceptual version among various cross layers. It is just like the reemergence of an extinct civilization. Though its significance is indistinct, the image is extremely vivid. This situation matches with the words voiced by the poet Hsia Yu, which goes: “ When reading is obstructed, words come forward.”
