“Nostalgia is about the distance or age; it is about the distance in the mind, and how far memory can be traced”

Grown in the back mountains of Taiwan – Hua Lian Yu Li town, Ye Zi Qi has his unique value of life. For years, he dialogued with nature aesthetics with his personal affections, the partners varied from “narrative” still objects to “inner image” sceneries. Recently, “tree” revolved from his philosophy and became the main element in Ye Zi Qi landscape paintings. From a single tree to a forest in “Sha Mao Mountain”, the “tree” is an inevitable and irreplaceable image, and it is also traces back into his childhood memories.

“Sha Mao Mountain” is an emblem and symbol of Ye Zi Qi’s youth, discovery of art and self reflection of life. In the composition《雲起‧紗帽山(II)》, the mountain is drawn a little to the right with clouds floating above, it expresses the self examination and open mindedness of life. Viewers could see “inner image sceneries”, mainly describing the romanticism of Germany in the early 19 century, Caspar David Fredrich focus on self examination and personal spiritual enrichment. It shows a still, mysterious and lonesome style, it not only mimics what can be seen by the naked eye, the spiritual status of the artist is also shown in the landscape. Ye Zi Qi initiated the beauty and spirit of Taiwanese forests, expressing himself in his unique language between the mountains, oceans, clouds and trees. Other than the original life of still objects, a deeper and further search into the life of earth in created through realistic and implicative approaches.
