Comparing the number of Chen’s drawing with his oil paintings, the number of water color paintings seems to be much less. Chen largely used woman as his subject, they were often done with ink outlines and water color. The style of Chen’s water color appears to be untrammeled and spontaneous and that it can be viewed as an extension of his drawing.
