Zhang Zizheng (張自正) is the second generation of Chinese painters who studied in France.  He entered Shanghai Collage of Fine Arts in his early years before he went to Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Lyon in France to major in oil painting, where he had developed solid foundation of the art.  His works have been displayed and received awards in Shanghai and National Art Exhibition in consecutive years.  His works, along with the selected pieces of artists including Lin Fengmian (林風眠), Li Keran (李可染), and Yan Wenliang (顏文樑), have been exhibited in Europe and the U.S. as representative works of Chinese contemporary art.  As a significant figure of the second generation of Chinese painters, Zhang combines features of classic realism, impressionism, and post-impressionism in his works.  His unique style has been both bold and liberal with piled solid strokes. In the work “Mountain Landscape”, Zhang used green as the background color; with the continuous pinnacles extended far, the artistic conception of rich Chinese culture connotation has been conveyed through the lines and strokes of the painting.
