After the 1970s, a new generation of artists started using images, cartoons, comics and advertisements as materials and subjects for their creations, but Tu insisted on continuing with tradional oil painting. His work depicts the surreal or prophetic situations from everyday life. He once said, “Dissembling brings entertainment, it dispels thoughts and makes me feel fragile and dazed. Cartoons cannot solve my problems. How can I resist the influences of the cartoons? I discover the influence of landscapes, and I use such a method to resist the common values of the age…” Thus, modern inspiration for Tu comes from everyday life, creating a personal visual fable through the structure of landscape paintings, forming a net-like image. Such works serve as a reflection on the times, hinting at the loneliness of man and the discord of modern urban life.
