Kuo’s Keen observation of the events and phenomena that occur in Taiwan bears the significance of the time. Belonging to the first generation after World War II, Kuo grew up in post-war Taiwan and witnessed the rise, the fall and turmoil in the process of democratization. As a contemporary artist, he records the transition of social reality with his brushes. The combination of Western beauties and Han bricks refer to the integration and conflicts between Western and Eastern cultures. High color contrast between red, blue and green, all political colors represents the political confrontation among three entities. Kuo points out the pretentious symbols manipulated by Taiwan’s parties in so doing, criticizing, mocking and also responding to social circumstances through his sharp and keen language of painting.

The outline of Kuo’s characters possesses the interest of traditional Chinese woodblock prints. In< Flower in Love>, Kuo use heavy, black thick outlines to delineate classic figures, while to one side he also places realistically three-dimensional modern ate stab at current Taiwan society, in which excessive commercialization and patent westernization deracinated society from its traditional culture. The view is clearly manifest in Kuo’s work in the late 80s.
