Exposition:

Luo Zhong-Li, regarded as the “flagship artist of Chinese art history in the 20th Century”, was born in Chongqing, Sichuan province. Graduating from the high school of Sichuan art academy, he presented a series of “Hometown” series which described the passion farmers have for their land. He completed the surrealist “Father” in 1980 and explicitly presented the typical images of Chinese farmers. This masterpiece has surprised the art work and began a new page of “scar art” in Chinese art history, and realist trend. Two to three years afterwards, Luo Zhong-Li created a series of classics such as “Spring Silkworms” and “Days” which revealed social problems and then he became a milestone in the development of art. He led several art movements and opened up a door to caring for the land and humanism. Later, he travelled to Europe and studied at the Royal Art Institute in Belgium. Belgium and the Netherlands, known as Flanders in ancient times, have begun many upraises since the Renaissance and bred many art masters. Among them, Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Vincent Willem van Gogh and Jean Francois Millet inspired him the most to open up a new art language which is personal and more trademark to present the rural lives.

“Belgium” was created in 1996, the bold and liberal dark lines stimulate the visual with a true presentation of the European folks. Luo Zhong-Li excels at capturing the lives of the ordinary and working level. The folks are presented in an exaggerating form; the style is more vulgar and more objective. The artist quickly sketches the scene and captures the season, lights, atmosphere and emotions of what was presented before him. As one of the representatives of the Chinese art academy, Luo Zhong Li is still a very creative artist until today who unceasingly improved his style and spirits. He has his unique art composition that is strong but plain. His artworks are widely recognized and collected worldwide.
