Liu Jiutong, explores oriental poetic subjects with flowing calligraphy lines, and rhythmic ink-drawing techniques. His vivid aesthetic approach is widely respected by the international art scene. The unique fusion between Eastern and Western culture sets him apart from other artists; and earned him a favorable reputation. Thick streaks of paint are applied directly onto the canvas using flat painting knives; subsequently creating an in-depth yet structural composition. The picturesque artwork echoes certain unspoken dream-like scenery. Qi Baishi emphasizes this practice of aesthetic state as “Existing yet non-existing, familiar yet non-familiar”. Watery Town in China was featured in both Paris International Contemporary Art Exhibition, and Milan Contemporary Art Fair. Liu also held many solo exhibitions across the globe presenting this particular painting.
