葉夫根.喬皮.戈里謝克 EVGEN ČOPI GORIŠEK ( b.1994 )

Evgen Čopi Gorišek was born in Slovenia and has never received formal art training. During his time living in his hometown, he visited an exhibition of Pop Art masters, which inspired him to become an artist. Influenced by the two-dimensional compositions of Pop Art, he was drawn to the striking colors and captivating popular imagery, leading him to focus more on portraiture.

The influence of the two-dimensional aesthetic led him to reduce the three-dimensional aspects of faces to a flattened level. His signature style involves using graffiti-like, blurred, and simple lines to depict facial features, creating a stark contrast with the more detailed clothing of his subjects, adding a touch of irony.

Evgen found his artistic core in the depiction of faces with a ubiquitous "signature fake smile." Unlike traditional portraiture, which emphasizes the rich emotional expressions of the face, his work conceals the true emotions and sincerity of his subjects. Interestingly, this highlights the lack of genuine communication and eye contact in contemporary society. Upon closer inspection, one notices that the faces in his work are deliberately smoothed out, reflecting the impossibility of imperfections in social media imagery. Through the powerful presentation of Pop Art, he addresses contemporary issues.

Recent solo exhibitions include "Only Loneliness Survives" in 2020, participation in the NADA Fair, and the 2024 Dubai Art Fair. His works are part of collections at X Museum, the Aurora Museum, and the Lian Foundation.
