麥可.卡根 MICHAEL KAGAN ( b.1980 )

Michael Kagan was born in 1980 in Virginia Beach, USA. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from The George Washington University and a Master’s degree from the New York Academy of Art, where he received a graduate fellowship in 2005. Kagan has been commissioned by The Smithsonian for special projects, collaborated twice with Pharrell Williams on fashion brands, and created the album cover for White Lies' "Big TV," which won the Art Vinyl award for best album cover in 2013.

Kagan's work explores the physical and mental journeys of adventurers such as mountaineers and astronauts. His dramatic style depicts scenes of humans challenging the extremes of nature through physical prowess and technology. He uses thick, powerful mediums to convey the decisiveness and strength of his subjects. Kagan believes that for a piece of art to be perfect, it must evoke a sense of disintegration or reassembly through different interpretations and distances by each viewer.

Kagan's work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions internationally and is included in several prestigious collections. These include the Hall Art Foundation in Reading, Vermont, USA; the Maezawa Collection in Chiba, Japan; the Maki Collection in Tokyo, Japan; the Gemini Trust Company in New York, NY, USA; the Fidelity Investments Corporate Contemporary Art Collection in Boston, MA, USA; the Founders Fund in San Francisco, CA, USA; and Jacob & Co. in New York, NY, USA.
