尼迪亞.韋爾 NEDIA WERE ( b.1989 )

Nedia Were was born and raised in Kenya. He developed a passion for art during his childhood, starting by drawing cartoons, comic book characters, and figures he saw in newspapers. He found newspaper events fascinating and felt a deep connection with the characters, aspiring to become someone who could address social and environmental issues and provide a voice for the disenfranchised in society. To respond to these voiceless individuals, he began his artistic journey.

He is a self-taught artist whose work primarily features Central African figures, representing a visual dialogue. These seemingly silent and tranquil responses challenge traditional art and Western modern aesthetics in classical painting, confronting artists' concepts of beauty. The human figure is a recurring theme in his creations, reflecting notions of beauty, taste, politics, and society. Through his art, Nedia aims to bridge the gaps in societal dialogue, fostering more communication and understanding.

Nedia has participated in over 30 exhibitions and was ranked the second most-followed emerging artist on Artsy in 2022. His works not only possess artistic value but also carry profound social significance, showcasing his concern for societal issues and his unique understanding of beauty.
