韓忠錫 HAN CHOONGSEOK ( b.1981 )

Han Choongseok, an artist hailing from Busan, South Korea, was born in 1981. He graduated with a degree in Western Art from Pusan National University and earned a master's degree from Pusan National University's Department of Western Art. His artwork combines Korea's unique broad-stroke cotton and traditional dyeing techniques to enhance the penetration of pigments into the canvas, resulting in gentle and distinctive colors.

His creative themes include human figures, cats, dogs, and other animals. He develops storylines through the interactions between these characters. The animals in his paintings are not only adorable in appearance but also engage with the viewers through their side-eye glances, making the audience a part of the artwork. Beneath these seemingly playful paintings lies a wealth of information about human relationships and social interactions. For example, the "hedgehog dilemma" reflects the artist's exploration of the core elements of self-defense mechanisms. Through his art, he delves into the complexity of the human heart and seeks a balance between self-esteem in role-playing within society and the loneliness experienced in daily life.

He emphasizes the importance of giving oneself and others space in interpersonal relationships, viewing such composure as a wise mindset for achieving a happy life. Han Choongseok's artwork not only soothes the troubles of everyday life but also advocates for the importance of communication between individuals and the attitude towards personal values in life.

Since 2008, Han Choongseok has held solo exhibitions. His solo exhibitions have been held at galleries such as YU Gallery in Busan from 2015 to 2021, and he also participated in a group exhibition in Shanghai in 2016. In 2021, he held a solo exhibition titled "Between Calm and Passion" at the ZUOQ Art Center in Kaohsiung.
