陶海豐 DAO HAIPHONG ( b.1965 )

Dao Hai Phong, born in 1965 in Hanoi, Vietnam, was deeply influenced by his filmmaker father. In 1983, he enrolled in the Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema. His journey into the world of art began in 1992 when he became the chief designer at the Vietnam Film Studio. This marked the start of his prolific career as an independent artist, and he became a member of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association.

Dao Hai Phong's artistic focus lies primarily in portraying the rural villages on the outskirts of Hanoi. He aims to document and preserve childhood memories of the countryside. He excels in using bold and vivid color tones along with unique textures to transform the gem-like colors into scenes of rural life that are gradually disappearing due to urbanization in Hanoi. His work exudes a sense of unique elegance, serenity, and tranquility, often conveying a subtle emptiness. Since 1993, he has held numerous exhibitions both in Vietnam and abroad.

Some of his notable exhibitions include "Hanoi Memories" (1993, Vietnam, Vietnam Fine Arts Association), "Vietnamese Art" (1994, London, UK, Roy Miles Gallery), "Colors of Purity and Contrast" (1999, Switzerland), "Twilight Moments" (2000, Hong Kong, Manart Gallery), "Era of Peace" (2001, New York, USA, Kim's Art Gallery), "Hello, Vietnam - Hello, Korea" (2006, Seoul, South Korea), "Vietnamese Treasures" (2015, London, UK, Hanoi Art House), and "Hanoi Gems Retrospective Exhibition" (2016, Thailand).
