橋爪悠也 YUYA HASHIZUME ( b.1983 )

Yuya Hashizume, hailing from Okayama, Japan, has had a lifelong passion for drawing and creative endeavors. Despite not having a formal art education, he is largely self-taught, constantly learning and experimenting to find his artistic direction. In the world of Japanese manga, many artists have been influenced by the master of manga, Fujiko Fujio, and Yuya Hashizume is one of them. He draws inspiration from Fujiko Fujio's smooth lines and rounded drawing style, using flat and simple lines as his foundation. With his unique approach, he creates character illustrations that are incredibly soothing.

Yuya Hashizume is adept at capturing the emotional fluctuations in everyday life. He delicately transforms these sensitive thoughts into his artwork, showcasing moments of emotional intensity. His popular "Eyewater" series features characters with teardrops forming in the corners of their eyes, about to fall, set against a monochromatic background.

Over time, he has introduced lively and cute animals, everyday objects, and items into his artwork, making his compositions more dynamic and vibrant. His interactions with his beloved cat, Morokoshi-san, have also become part of his artistic expression. In 2022, he held his first solo exhibition in Taiwan, creating works that feature Taiwan's unique wildlife, such as Taiwan blue magpies and Mikado pheasants perched on the shoulders of young girls. He also released exclusive "Taiwan limited edition prints and sculptures," aiming to connect and exchange artistic expressions with local culture.

Yuya Hashizume made his debut with exhibitions in Japan, Thailand, South Korea, and other places. His "Eyewater" series has attracted a global following. His recent exhibition at The Waluso Gallery in London was a huge success, marking an important milestone for his entry into the European art scene. He was also invited to hold a solo exhibition by The Real Project, an art initiative by Hong Kong artist and young art collector Zoie Lam, establishing himself as a rising star in the contemporary art market.
