Born in 1982 in Niigata, Japan, this artist graduated from Kanazawa College of Art with a major in sculpture, and received a master's degree in sculpture from the National Taiwan University of Arts. Starting in 2000, he began using wood as a medium and participated in international exhibitions in Taiwan, Korea, and other countries, as well as collaborating with investigators on interdisciplinary projects. Since 2007, the artist has projected his own values and experiences onto his works, carving "abnormal" human proportions with elongated limbs and postures that extend beyond realistic proportions, creating a space for dialogue with his own thoughts through his expanded body.
Abe explores the fear of the unpredictable future through his works, reflecting on the relationship between humans and technological tools. As our lives become more and more intertwined with external machinery, devices will extend our hands and feet, expand our memories, and lead us toward a cybernetic future. His perspective is diverse, blending subcultures and mythological backgrounds into his creations, which, despite their lightness, contain profound concepts.
