Fanny Brodar is an artist born in Oslo, Norway in 1971, who grew up in New York and settled there to develop her art. She is deeply influenced by her mischievous childhood curiosity, playful Japanese art, visually dynamic and lively compositions of artists like Rose Wylie, and the simple yet expressive paintings of Philip Guston. Fanny Brodar's art is a collision between the 1970s and the 2000s. It represents childhood memories as well as the pioneer of contemporary culture and future animation.
Fanny Brodar enjoys improvisational theatrical performances, which is similar to her style of painting. She believes in creating spontaneously from the ideas that naturally occur to her mind, rather than using preconceived compositions to depict sketches. The simple and innocent characters she creates are a way for her to escape childhood trauma and represent the various emotions and thoughts of children. She is interested in child psychology, which inspires her to create works that have deeper meanings. As children grow up to become adults, they often choose to forget their pain and cling to happy memories in order to survive.
Fanny Brodar's creations are characterized by bright and vibrant colors, childlike paintings, and scribbled handwriting. She creates a tense atmosphere using bright and dark tones, as well as cartoon characters. Her works take the audience back in time, exploring nostalgia for the childhood self and the pure and imaginative nature of childhood, while leading them into a fictional and magical world.
