René Magritte was a Belgian surrealist artist born in 1898 in Lessines, Hainaut. He is known for his imaginative use of everyday objects in his paintings, which often feature a hint of humor and thought-provoking symbolisms. His works have had a significant impact on the development of modern illustration styles. Magritte attended the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels from 1916 to 1918, during which time his early works were influenced by Impressionism. He later embraced Futurism and Cubism before settling on the Surrealist style for which he is best known in 1926.
