MEDICOM X KARIMOKU (X PORTER X CJ MART) (2016)
MEDICOM TOY is a Japanese brand that specializes in creating collectable toys and action figures founded in 1996. To celebrate it’s 20th anniversary, MEDICOM TOY collaborated with Karimoku, a wood furniture brand that was founded in 1940 in Japan; together they created a series of limited edition collectable toys, titled Woven Wood BE@RBRICK 400% Using carefully selected walnut wood as medium, the work is beautifully carved with a smooth finish. The intertwining shade of wood creates a dynamic and original visual effect while delivering a warm temperament. The MEDICOM X KARIMOKU X PORTER collection series Porter Wood BE@RBRICK features the recognizable bear-shaped toy laminated in matte black and polished with orange accents. The avant-garde collaboration, also Includes four different sized leather goods made in black leather embossed with logo detail and adorned with silver BE@RBRICK hardware. Following INDIGO PAINT and ROSEWOOD PAINT, Mr. Ikeda’s newest work in the paint series is BE@RBRICK KARIMOKU CRACK PAINT 400%. The cracking and deterioration usually occur to antique furniture that was used for a long period of time. Those cracks and deterioration increase its value as evidence of history; and this time, CRACK PAINT is applied to newly manufactured BE@RBRICK to demonstrate an antique feel to new goods, a challenge to new perspectives.
