ZHONG CHENG

嚴培明 YAN PEIMING (b.1960)

Yan Pei-Ming was born in Shanghai, China, currently resides in Dijon, France. From 1981 to 1986, he was enrolled in Ecole Nationale des Beaux-arts, Dijon. From 1988-1989, he continued his studies at the Institut des Hautes Etudes en Arts Plastiques de Paris. From 1993-1994 he studied at the Italian Académie de France in Rome. He took the teaching post at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-arts Dijon since 1995. He was considered one of the first Chinese contemporary artist to enter the Western art scene. Afterr his first solo exhibition “La maison du thé, Musée Greuze” in 1989, he participated in countless solo exhibition and significant group exhibitions ever since. In 2009, he became the first artist of Chinese origin to held solo exhibition in the Louvre. His work can be found in the permanent collection of Centre Georges Pompidou, Courtauld Institue of Art, London, National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo and more. In the same year he was awarded with the medal of Chevalier of the Legion of Honor by the French government. Important group exhibitions include: "Studio 88" (1988, Museum of Modern Art of Paris), "Exercise 2" (1991, Centre de Pompidou), "Chinese Avant-garde Art" (1993, Berlin, Rotterdam, Oxford), "Biennale of Venice" (1995), "Biennale of Lyon" (1997), "Biennale of Gwangjiu" (2000, Korea), "Biennale of Shanghai" (2000), "Biennale of Pankoo" (2002, Korea) and many more.
