Born in Paris, France, Rodin studied in the Petite École in Paris between 1854 and 1857, learning painting from Horace Lecoq de Boisbaudran. After graduating from Petite École, he soon began learning sculpture with Antoine-Louis Barye, and became the chief assistant of the famous sculptor Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse. In the studio, he helped designing roof decorations and staircase and doorway embellishments. After then, Rodin went to Belgium Brussels working on the ornamentation. In 1875, he traveled to Italy and was inspired by Michelangelo’s works, which had a profound effect on his early artistic direction, the realism. In his old year, Rodin turned his interest to the impressionism and symbolism. The innovative style opened the gate for modern sculpture in 21st century. The well-known works of Rodin include: “The Thinker”, “The Gates of Hell”, “The Burghers of Calais”, “The Kiss” and “Balzac”.
