ZHONG CHENG

陳義郎 CHEN YILANG (b.1968)

Chen Yi-Lang was born in Chiayi, Taiwan. He engaged in woodcarving in 1986 under the instruction of master Yeh Huan-Mu in Sanyi, and later founded his own studio in 1991. He won first place in the Fifth Woodcarving Golden Award in 2001, and the third place in the Provincial Woodcarving Competition in 2002, his work was selected in The 7th Woodcarving Golden Award. His recent exhibitions include: “National Museum Collection” (2005, Taichung, National Museum of Arts); “Artists of Light and Shadow Party” (2006, Eslite Gallery, Taipei); “The Character- Shaped Beasts” (2006, Taiwan, Taipei Art Fair); “The Character- shaped Beasts II” (2006, Moon Gallery, Taichung); “Essence of Contemporary Wood Craft” (2006, Taipei, Presidential Office Building); “International Art Fair” (2007, Taipei, Taiwan); “Communication between Terracotta and Wood” (2008, Taichung, Feng Chia University); “The Word Carving of Chen Yi-Lang” (2008, Moon Gallery, Taichung); “The Master of Monsters” (2009, Taipei City Government Cultural Center, Taiwan); “Magnificence and Vicissitudes – Invincible General” Solo Exhibition (2011, Moon Gallery, Taichung); “Chen Yi-Lang” (2013, Kuo Mu Sheng Foundation, Taipei); “Character-Shaped Beast: Chen Yi-Lang” (2016, Moon Gallery, Taichung).
