ZHONG CHENG

Kuo Pochuan was born in Tainan, Taiwan, he graduated from National Taiwan Normal University in 1921. He continued to study art when he moved to Japan in 1926. He was nominated for the 1^st Taiten Exhibition in 1927. After graduating from the western painting department of Tokyo Academy of Fine Arts in 1933, Guo spent a year to travel North Eastern China drawing and recording the scenery he encountered. In 1938, he took the post of professor at both National Peking Normal University and National Peking Technical School and at Jinghua Art and Media School in 1942. He returned and settled in Tainan, Taiwan in 1948, where he later instructed the architectural department of Cheng Kung University in 1950. He serve as chairman for Tainan Art Research Association (Nan Mei Hui) in 1952, and established Nan Mei Hui research group and South of Taiwan Art Expo in 1953. Nan Mei Hui progressively grew, and was even invited to Taidong city for toured exhibition in 1970. Kuo Pochuan transcend Eastern essence and characteristics in his oil paintings, discovering a unique artistic language.
