ZHONG CHENG

郭明福 KUO MINGFU (b.1950)

Born in Chiayi city, Kuo Ming-Fu graduated from the Fine Arts department of National Taiwan Normal University, specialized in Western painting division. Kuo was an instructor for the fine arts experimental class at Affiliated Senior High School, and jury of Taoyuan Art Exhibition and Taipei City Students’ Art Exhibition. In 2007, he won the Golden Goblet Award from Chinese Art Association for his outstanding watercolor work. Kuo specializes in both watercolor and oil painting, best known for his portrayal of Taiwanese landscape. He had travelled to numerous countries in Europe, and was especially inspired by the spirit of “wandervogel,” thus he created a series of works under the theme. In 2003, Kuo sets off to realize his wandervogel dream; he applied for the MFA program at Fontbonne University in Missouri at the age of 53, and successfully obtained his master’s degree the following year. His recent exhibitions include: “Two Solo Exhibitions by Poets of Nature” (2012, Rong Ren Foundation of Art and Culture, Tainan), “Kuo Ming-Fu Solo Exhibition” (2013, Art Revolution Taipei), “Impressions of Taiwan – 2011 Watercolor Exhibition” (2011, National Museum of History), “Tradition and Transformation: Taiwan-Australia Watercolor Exhibition” (2012, Taichung Shiyakusho), “Invitational Watercolor Exhibition from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau” (2013, Guancheng Art Museum); “Kuo Ming-Fu Oil Painting Exhibition” (2014, Harvest Art Gallery); “Circulation – Taiwan Modern Watercolor Painting Series” (2016, Arki Galleria).
