莫里斯.德.烏拉曼克 MAURICE DE VLAMINCK (1876 - 1958)

Maurice de Vlaminck was born in Paris, France. His father was a violinist and his mother a pianist. He began painting in his late teens, and favors the use of bright contrasting colors. After seeing Van Gogh’s exhibition in 1901, he was inspired to rebel against all traditional style of painting; he continued to learn painting though self-exploration. He developed an individual artistic style that resembles Van Gogh’s powerful brushworks and Cezanne’s geometric composition. Vlaminck is a renowned Fauves artist along side artist like Andre Ferain and Henri Matisse. As one of the true pioneers of modernist abstraction, his bright expressive colors, and outrageously unconventional depictions earn him an influential place in art history. Vlaminck interacted with Picasso and Apollinaire throughout his lifetime. Other than painting, Vlaminck was also extremely talented in stage design, poetry, novels and essay writing.
