ZHONG CHENG

強.詹森 JEAN JANSEM (1920-2013)

Jean Jansem was born in Bursa, Turkey, his childhood was mostly spent in Greece. In 1938, he attended the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and held his first solo exhibition at the Salon des Independants in 1939. In 1950 when he returned to Greece, and it was within the Mediterranean that he discovered light, until then his paintings had been somber. Throughout the Greek countryside he eagerly sketched the shadowy figures that had surround him in his infancy and had remained hidden in his subconscious mind until now – there were peasants, fishermen, tradesmen and more. Jansem works in a figurative style, mostly depicting women. He has won numerous awards and held exhibitions all across the world.
